The Earth is the Lord’s – not ours to wreck
Sacred Earth Matters is presenting a resolution about Climate Change to the congregation for discussion and a vote at the May 19 Congregational Annual Meeting.
There will be copies of the resolution available before then and lots of material supporting it.
This resolution is asking us to respond to the destruction of our earth brought about by climate change and human actions.
SEM believes that God is calling the church to become a leading religious voice on climate change and environmental racism. The resolution calls the church and all of us to raise our prophetic voices regarding the urgency of healing the climate of our earth.
Some of the issues include:
- Encouraging the church to invest in fossil-fuel-free funds
- Educating members about the perils of climate change and what we can do about it
- Advocating for State and Federal policies that will promote the use of alternative fuels
- Accepting that combating climate change is a moral imperative that affects us all but especially marginalized peoples in a variety of ways.
Look for more information in the coming weeks about this call to live out our faith in our daily lives and actions.
