UCUCC invites you to join Pastor Catherine and celebrate the work of member Susan Everett, WSDOT program Design Engineer and Manager, on the:
Run (walk) like the viaduct is collapsing behind you! (Note: it won’t) This is the final opportunity to be on the viaduct before it’s torn down, and the first ever walk or run through the new tunnel. The Tunnel to Viaduct 8K will head south on the upper deck of the new SR 99 Tunnel and will return on the lower deck of the viaduct returning north through the Battery Street Tunnel. Please note, this course is not flat; both the tunnel and viaduct have moderate elevation gain.
EVENT INFO: Wave Start Information
The Tunnel to Viaduct 8K will begin at the southbound entrance to the new SR 99 Tunnel located at 6th Ave N & Harrison St. Due to the size of the event and size of roadways, we will begin in waves based on estimated finish times. For safety reasons, only participants wearing the official Tunnel to Viaduct 8K bibs will be allowed within the “start corrals.”
I’d like to be with my friends, can I? Yes, you can all run or walk together, but to do so, you will need to start in the last corral of your group. No runners will be allowed in corrals starting before theirs, but you will be allowed to move back corrals.
Note: Catherine is registered to run at a 13 min/mile pace, which is considered a slow run or a fast walk.
The event begins at 7:30 a.m. All participants will need to have exited the southern end of the SR 99 Tunnel and on 1st Ave S by 10:30am (2-mile point). All participants will need to be off the 8K route by 11:00am. That is plenty of time for walkers to complete the event.
