“Brave! Stories of Courage and Wonder”
A Fall Worship Series
This Fall, our worship series will be centered on what it means and takes for us to have a faith that helps us to be brave and believe in wonder. We will be reading and hearing stories of bravery and courage that take many forms. Sometimes it is the courage to meet bodily danger, sometimes it is the courage to give even when all we can see before us is scarcity. Our hope is that hearing these stories and engaging in worship together will help you feel more courage and wonder in your life.
In facing much change and many threats to our values, we need tools to meet the natural anxiety of these times and of this particular transitional time for our congregation. We need to remember delight and wonder while cultivating resilience. We need experiences of joy and hope to feed our souls and reassure us while fostering courage and strengthening us both to resist evil and to persist in the Way of Love. We need to be able to recognize the Ways of Jesus taking root and blossoming all around us, perhaps in places we have never been taught to look.
Our Worship Series work is in the midst of moving from something people come to UCUCC to experience to being an experience that inspires and invites activity beyond our walls and beyond Sunday morning.
We have inherited a deeply incarnated story and theology. That means all of our thinking and images of the Divine must be birthed and lived in an embodied expression; an action, a practice, a habit. This fall you are invited to band together in an In-Courage Faith small group for six weeks, October through mid-November, to further our embodiment of courage. Supported by the book Courageous Faith: How to Rise and Resist in a Time of Fear by UCC pastor Emily Heath, In-Courage groups are intended to build a faithful courage that uplifts our church and its members into attitudes and actions that bring healing and justice in our lives and the life of our community. Each In-Courage group member will be invited to identify their own internal step of growth and a correlate external action to accomplish with the support of their group.
