Green Valley-Sahuarita (GVS) Samaritans | Good Shepherd UCC
Below are brief descriptions of our activities in the Borderlands. See our website, www.gvs-samaritans.org for more information.
Four to five times/week for 6-8 hours/day we search the desert for people in need of food, water or medical aid.
Twice a week for 5-7 hours/day we drop water in the desert to save lives.
Tuesdays, we serve food to migrants/deportees/asylum seekers at the food kitchen in Nogales, Sonora. It is run by Kino Border Initiative, which offers volunteer activities for groups.
Operation Streamline (OS):
Twice a week, we observe OS. This is Tucson’s fast-track, federal criminal court which processes migrants.
Weekly, we teach young asylum seekers phrases to prepare them for their future journeys.
We meet from 8 – 9 am on alternate Mondays at The Good Shepherd Church in Sahuarita. A meeting for newcomers immediately follows. Check website Calendar for dates and address.
Interested in US-Mexico Border Crossing?

Are you interested in a 3-4 day mission trip plus the Border Issues Fair?
This is an opportunity to engage first-hand with the people and the environs affected by our current immigration policies.
Common Ground on the Border and Border Issues Fair is a three-day event, featuring classes in art, music and a variety of lectures. The US-Mexico Borderlands have always been a beautiful mix of culture, language, cuisine, economies and people. It has also been a place of struggle, high and low temperatures, a fragile environment, and the push-and-pull of immigration.
The Borderlands is the perfect place to explore the arts, touch the culture, and have deeper conversations about the complicated issues that collide there.
Common Ground on the Border & 16th Annual Santa Cruz Valley Border Issues Fair
- Jan 16-18, 2020, Thu – Sat, plus 3-4 days in the community after the Fair.
