Summer Worship Series: I love to retell the story
The stories we tell, and how we understand them, define our reality. Humans are meaning-making creatures who have been using stories to interpret our world and shape our lives since the very beginnings of culture. Storytelling is a creative and sacred act when it engages the Mystery of Life to impart a life-giving truth for the benefit of the community.
This summer, our worship series will be centered on retelling Bible stories, with a particular focus on hospitality. Each pastor will preach based on scripture as we tell it aloud, or in the Illustrated Children’s Bibles found in the pews. Meaning, the text will be heavily adapted to tell what we think the story means, with less concern for precise text translations. We will take particular care to focus on aspects of the story that may show us how to care, love and respect one another in community and the stranger.
We hope this series will help us connect to the stories of faith that shape and form us. And we hope the stories we’ve chosen will help you deepen an aspect of your faith, hospitality, justice and care.
