Justice Leadership Jubilee Associate for University Congregational UCC
submitted by Jan von Lehe
Justice Leadership Jubilee is an ecumenical intentional ten-month commitment for adults who want to deepen their faith, explore the intersection of spirituality and social justice, and learn systemic change-making skills with a community of their peers. (www.justiceleadership.org) I am pleased to begin my journey with the JLJ program to find my calling in this new time of retirement. The support of the Justice Leadership program manager, Chris Hanson, and Elizabeth Dickinson, spiritual sojourner, will be so very helpful in my skill building as well as my spiritual sojourn.
This year I will be volunteering 6-10 hours a week with 350 Seattle http://350seattle.org to support their work toward climate justice by organizing people to make deep system change: resisting fossil fuels; building momentum for healthy alternatives; and fostering resilient, just, and welcoming communities.
As a JLJ Associate I will also be volunteering 1-2 hours a week at UCUCC with the goal to gain skills in enlivening and inspiring congregational mission and ministry.
This work will include projects with Sacred Earth Matters group and our Calling, Engagement and Community Ministry. Periodic updates to Church Council or other Ministry will be made and input is most welcome regarding how this time can be most valuable.
Our work toward climate justice is so urgent given the UN and U.S. reports and I am grateful to work with Sacred Earth Matters and 350seattle for a sustainable world. I am so grateful for the leadership and support within our UCUCC community and the national UCC church to create such a solid Justice Leadership Jubilee program that supports my learning and involvement!
