No matter who you are, or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here at University Congregational United Church of Christ. Young, old, sure of your path, or still searching — we invite you to join us in imagining love and justice – as Jesus did – and acting to change the world. We strive to walk in the path of Jesus, and to offer an authentic welcome to everyone who walks through our door. We invite visitors to wear a name-tag from the pew register folder so we may more easily greet you by name.

Our worship service starts at 10 am and includes hymns, prayers, scripture reading and a sermon. It usually lasts about an hour and 15 minutes. More information here.

Children are an important part of our community, and are welcome for all or part or the service. You will be met at the door with a warm handshake and welcome, and our friendly greeters can help direct you and answer your questions.

Wear clothes that you are comfortable in and sit on the main floor or in the balcony - wherever you feel most at ease. We look forward to welcoming you.

The Council of the University Congregational United Church of Christ met on January 16, 2019.

The council members welcomed Todd Smiedendorf, and spent some time doing short introductions.  Then Todd told a little about himself.

Council set a goal for ourselves to read and discuss White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism. Some members had a bit of difficulty getting the book. Therefore, discussion of the book deferred until the February council meeting.

Don Guthrie and David Anderson provided a preliminary 2018 end-of-year financial report
  • Slight revenue shortfall – offerings at 99% of budget, Lot C parking revenue down.
  • Most areas are on budget for expenses – significant overrun in Facilities and Equipment due to major maintenance issues with alarm system and security doors.  ~ 2% over budget
  • Net deficit of $60,000 for 2018. We have money in undesignated reserves and a special council reserve.  The shortfall will come out of undesignated funds and despite 2018 shortfall, we still have over $100,000.
Annual Report submissions will be due April 1.

A reminder will be sent out to committees and ministries in March.

2019 Budget

The church council discussed and approved a revised 2019 budget as presented by the Budget Committee. Deep gratitude for all who pledged and increased their pledges. Pledges are $30,000 below goal, but it is enough for a workable budget.

The budget committee met on Jan 6 and made adjustments (decreases) to Personnel, Love and Justice (including teen feed), Stewardship & Finance, and Facilities and Equipment. The budget includes 2.8% COLA for staff other than leadership and 1.5% COLA for leadership staff. Appreciation was expressed for the updates to the membership and the re-ask: they were done well throughout the process.

Todd led the closing prayer, and the meeting was adjourned by Margaret Stine.
