- If the Seattle School District is closed due to snow or other inclement weather, the church building will be closed also.
- If the Seattle School District schools open late, the church building will also open late
(ex: 2 hours late opening for the schools = 2 hours late opening for the church building).
- If something happens during the day and schools close early, we will also try to close early, providing we are able to contact parents or others who need to pick up children or clients who are here.
We are concerned about the safety of all who use this building, and want to encourage a responsible response to unusual and hazardous conditions. And when necessary we want to help make roads available for first responders, snow plows, and others who need to be out even in hazardous conditions. We know the Seattle School District has direct contact with weather forecasters, Seattle Transportation people, and others who can help make an informed decision about the relative hazards of travel. So we rely on their good judgment.
On weekends, the leadership staff and moderator make the call, based on the best information we have. We will get the word out as soon as possible after the decision, using email, church web site and voice mail, and social media. We will try to name alternative possibilities for creating community in the midst of it all. For example, here’s the Facebook live feed with Catherine Foote on Sunday, February 10, 2019:
After this last bout we will review the policy and the related tasks and procedures, and may make revisions. So stay tuned. Thanks for your understanding, for your graciousness in the midst of tough realities, and for your own sense of self-care and community support.
