(The Harvest Home Tea was a fund-raiser for University Congregational Housing Association, which is no longer raising money to purchase housing, but busy now transferring the properties to others who will continue their mission.)

And in years past we scanned our mail for an invitation to the Harvest Home Tea. Some of us unearthed hats for the occasion, others unpacked the fall-colored “linen” tablecloths and spread them on tables in the Lounge, to be set with more “linen” fall-colored napkins and always flowers and plants from Swanson’s Nursery. Always the men on the University Congregational Housing Association Board wondered why so many women attended, when they knew they were only going to be fed wee sandwiches and cookies.
Did everyone know that event was run by Evelyn Crichton?
She collected tea pots from Good Will, stored them and the linens and took them home to be packed away again. So today, no Tea, but lots of gratitude for that determined woman who presided over our Tea for 12 years in a row.
