Challenging Faiths: Islam and Christianity
Make plans to join your church family July 7-12 for all your favorite camp activities. Highlights include dancing, singing, spending time with friends old and new, watching kids find their niche, and of course, the adult program.
Dig deeper into your faith this summer at Seabeck as we welcome Ali Mian, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Islamic Studies in the Theology and Religious Studies Department at Seattle University, as our guest speaker.
Professor Mian explains that “Challenging Faith invites everyone to reflect on the transformative power of faith in the everyday domain of spirituality, ethics, and social justice.”
Challenging Faith refers both to investigating how our faith challenges us and how we might challenge our own faith. At Seabeck, Professor Mian will instruct and guide us in using our faith, and inspiration from biblical and Qur’anic revelation, to challenge national political and social norms. Further, we will learn to use our inner impulse toward social justice to challenge taken-for-granted faith as well as religious values and truths. We will have the opportunity to both challenge our assumptions and to learn something about Islam, specifically where it intersects with Christianity.
