Our Immigrant Justice Team, along with six other congregations in the U-District Immigrant Justice Hub, will again collect food donations in January for immigrant families experiencing food insecurity. The generosity of the November collection was much appreciated by these vulnerable families who have difficulty accessing community food banks and other resource centers due to the detention of a family member, the financial hardship this often adds and/or other aggressive ICE policies.
The Alternative Food Bank Project was established to help fill this void. The project involves partners throughout the Puget Sound coordinating donation drop-off sites. Congregation Beth Shalom will again serve as a drop-off site for donations for all the U-District Hub congregations for January.
Please consider supporting these impacted families by donating either food or $20 Safeway gift cards.
Suggested food items may be found at https://alternativefoodbankproject.com/ They include foods such as brown rice, whole grain pasta, canned fruits and bread.
You may drop your donations off at: Congregation Beth Shalom Office, 6800 35th Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98115 – Jan. 6-10, Jan. 13-17 or Jan. 21-24 (no drop off on Monday, Jan. 20, MLK Day) – Thursday, 9 am-5pm and Friday, 9 am-2 pm
Or – bring your donation to church on Sunday January 12 or January 19 and we will deliver for you.
